Egg Donation in Kansas City: What is the first step for intended parents?
April 26, 2014When a woman or couples first hear the recommendation from their physician that using an egg donor to build and grow their family is an option they should consider, knowing where to start is the first thought many people have. Although there are many important steps in the process, the first important step is allowing time to understand all of the emotions that come along with hearing those words.
It is normal to feel a variety of difficult emotions, and one of those feelings is grief. Most women and couples don’t understand that grieving the loss of having a genetic child is something that all people feel when they learn that using their own eggs (or sperm) is not a viable option. It is a loss to the individual, but also to the couple, as a husband and wife must grieve together that their combined genetics to have a child is not the path to parenthood for them.
The time that it takes for an individual or couple to grieve so they can move forward is extremely variable. It can take a few weeks, a few months, and sometimes even longer. Counseling can be very helpful while going through this stage of the process. You will know when you are ready to move forward. Maybe you will decide using an egg donor is not the right option for you. There are other ways to build and grow your family so take the time you need to figure out which option is best for you.

Kansas City Egg Donors Want To Know Cycle Outcomes
April 12, 2014A question we hear often from our egg donors is “Can I know if my recipient family got pregnant?” According to research, most egg donors want to know if their gift of egg donation resulted in a pregnancy, which of course is the outcome everyone hopes for.
We do inform our anonymous egg donors of the cycle outcome, if they wish to know. Our belief is not only is it their right to know, but they need to know so that they can decide how they want to share that information with their own children and families. Historically, some clinics with their own in-house egg donor programs have not been willing to share the outcome with their egg donors. As we learn and understand more how third-party reproduction impacts all involved parties in the future, the current belief is evolving into having more information not less helps everyone make better decisions.

Kansas City Egg Donor Shares Her Story
March 29, 2014My hope in sharing some of my thoughts and feelings about my journey as a first- time egg donor is to help others know what an amazing experience helping others build and grow their family can be!
I thought about being an egg donor for quite some time and what initially gave me the idea to help others is such a special way was a conversation with my husband. We knew friends and family members struggling with infertility and saw their heartbreak first hand. How could we not consider this opportunity to give such a special gift?
I have two amazing children of my own and know the joys of pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting. My heart breaks knowing there are so many good people that want to experience these same joys but can’t because of infertility. It only makes sense to me to donate my eggs, that I will not use myself, to give others a chance they would not otherwise have to be parents.
Working with Pathways To Parenthood made my egg donation process easy and stress-free. I knew what to expect and they were always available to answer my questions and address my needs.
The whole experience of being an egg donor for a loving couple that wanted a baby was more fulfilling than I imagined. I feel lucky to have been a part of such a special process for my recipient family. I plan to donate again and look forward to helping another family realize their dream of becoming parents.
